The vineyard of Saint-Pour\u00e7ain is said to be older than those planted by the Romans. Saint Louis had this wine served at his royal table and it had a flattering reputation. The popes in Avignon were not to be outdone: despite the prohibitive cost of transport, 60 to 120 hectolitres were sent to them each year.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Today, the vineyard extends over 600 hectares around the town of Saint-Pour\u00e7ain-sur-Sioule, on the left bank of the Allier between Chemilly to the north and Chantelle to the south. Its production has been classified as AOC since 2009.<\/p>

The main grape varieties used are Gamay and Pinot Noir for the reds and ros\u00e9s, Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Tressalier for the whites. The wine route allows you to meet the winegrowers, whether they are independent winegrowers (there are about twenty private cellars) or members of the Union des Vignerons (140). <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
