12 kilometres from Moulins, the Abbey of Souvigny, once the necropolis of the Dukes of Bourbon, is a site not to be missed during your stay in the Allier. A dependency of Cluny Abbey, founded in 916, Souvigny quickly became a major centre of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages.
A walking tour allows you to discover the different jewels of this abbey. It takes you to the church of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul, the largest religious building in the Bourbonnais. Built between the 10th and 15th centuries, it has a double transept and houses the graves of the Dukes of Bourbon and their wives.
Your tour then continues through the Priory garden, a true reconstruction of French gardens from the 17th and 18th centuries.
